While driving a truck, you’re surrounded by several noises such as the sound of the engine, the tires on the road, and the music coming from the radio. However, there are some sounds coming from underneath that are not natural. It may be due to exhaust systems issues. If you are not sure about this, follow the below tips to troubleshoot diesel exhaust systems, have a look:
  • Mufflers: Inspect the area around clamps for cracks, breakage, and rust-through. Leakage in the muffler can cause cleanup expenses when soot escapes and discolors the cab. And most importantly, a leaky muffler may allow exhaust gases into the driver compartment causing sleepiness and even death. So, visit one of your favorite muffler shops in Sacramento and correct all cracks.
  • Stacks and exhaust pipes: Crushed portions of any tubing can cause exhaust flow restriction and increase back pressure significantly. Moreover, small dents will cause decreased fuel economy and increased turbo wear whereas relatively large dents causes increased bearing and cylinder wear from increased exhaust temperature.
  • Rain caps: Rain caps are recommended to prevent melted snow and sleet from passing beyond the muffler to the engine. Also, a curved exhaust stack is an acceptable alternative to rain cap but not 100% efficient in hard rain.
  • Tubing: If you find any fault in the tubing don’t patch it and replace the entire section. Stainless steel is recommended as the best long lasting value.
  • Mounting: The muffler brackets should fit securely to the muffler and to the mast or truck frame. It should not squeeze the muffler body and the mast must not vibrate or wiggle.
